BIOINFORMATICS, BIG DATA, AI, AND PUBLIC HEALTH: AN INTEGRATED WORLD

Increasingly, 21st century healthcare relies upon big data streams (e.g., image, graphic and omics data) from emerging technologies. These types of data tend to be complex and multi-dimensional, and from efforts to automate digitization of legacy reference studies, necessitating integrative strategies. Meanwhile, Artificial Intelligence (AI) approaches to synthesize, interpret, and leverage data have demonstrated significant impact across a broad range of scientific disciplines. Data connectivity, computational resources, and new/advanced bioinformatic strategies fuel the rise of AI, providing new insight into underlying mechanisms of human health and disease and their susceptibility to exogenous perturbations. Thus, this meeting will provide a platform to present and discuss the current state-of-the-art practice and on-going efforts in applying AI in healthcare and enabling efficient data mining to promote public health.

OPEN AND REPRODUCIBLE SCIENCE

Out of concern for public safety, the Arkansas Bioinformatics Consortium (AB-BIC) conducted its 8th annual conference on March 10-11, 2022, online via Zoom. This year’s theme focused on “Open and Reproducible Science”. The event allowed researchers, students, and leaders from the academic, commercial, and government communities to share insights and findings. It showcased research conducted by world class scientists and highlighted exciting projects underway at the professional, graduate, and undergraduate levels from research universities, institutes, and facilities across Arkansas, the United States, and around the world.

DATA SCIENCE SOLUTIONS FOR COVID-19

Out of concern for public safety, COVID-19 has compelled everyone to adapt and innovate. On February 25, 2021, the Arkansas Bioinformatics Consortium (AB-BIC) conducted its first online event, inviting researchers, students, and leaders from the academic, commercial and government communities to share insights and findings via teleconferencing (Zoom).

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) AT ARKANSAS (AR)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a broad concept of training machines to think and behave like humans. It consists of a wide range of statistical and machinal leaning approaches with a specific emphasis on learning from the existing data/information to predict future outcomes. This conference will discuss the basic concept and methodologies of AI applied in the fields of biomedical research, food safety, drug discovery/development and clinical application. In addition to provide a platform for networking and collaboration, this conference will also showcase AI expertise and
experience at AR.
